A Description of a Biblical Mother

PROVERBS 1:24 – 28

May of 1908 Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother. After many attempts to have this day remembered every year President Woodrow Wilson made it a Holiday for every 2nd Sunday in May. It reminds me of the woman and the unjust Judge in the book of ST. Luke 18:1 – 8. She would not give up until it wearied him and she got relief from her situation.

Although mothers of this day are somewhat different in that they work out of the home the responsibility has not changed.

The book of Proverbs has been deemed the book of wisdom for all people. We find a good description of a biblical mother.

  1. 24 – She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. A mother finds ways to help support her family. We live in a two income society per home these days. Brothers any help she is willing to give receive it with thanksgiving.

V.25 – Strenght and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. A mother is strong and proud to be a mother knowing that she will be happier as her family grows.

  1. 26 – She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. A mother is careful what comes out of her mouth because she understands her children, family, friends, and most of all God is listening. Her words are kind and cut deep to the thought.

V.27 – She lookeht well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. A mother keeps her house and her household business at home. She understands idleness is her enemy it brings unhealthy thoughts, it causes her feet to wander on to destructive territory.

  1. 28 – Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. A mother like that is worth rubies. The children want others to know that’s my mom she’s not my friend but she is my mom. Her husband talks about her like she is a Queen. It really bothers me to hear a husband put down his wife. When you are talking about her to others they are looking at you saying I would love to get her side of the story. Is she this way because of your actions or does she not like being your wife. Brothers do as the word say praise her not with words only but with deeds.

Now Solomon has DISCRIBEED A BIBLICAL MOTHER TO US. You that have one do all you can to keep her.

As I close I want to use the letters in mother to remind us of her status;

M – MAGNIFIENT

O – OUTSTANDING

T – TENDER

H – HONORABLE

E – EXTROORDINARY

R – REMARKABLE
